GTA 6 for PC: when will it release?

GTA 6 arrives on 19 November 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. PC is not on that list, and Rockstar has not said when — or formally that — it will be. What it has done is release four games this way before, and those gaps are the only evidence anyone actually has.

The short answer

Rockstar has not announced a GTA 6 PC version, so no release date exists. The only evidence is precedent: GTA 4, GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 each reached PC roughly one to two years after their console release, which points at 2027 or 2028. That is a pattern, not a plan.

The short answer

There is no GTA 6 PC release date, because there is no announced GTA 6 PC version. Rockstar's own Grand Theft Auto VI page lists two platforms — PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S — and nothing else. There is no Steam page, no Epic page, no listing on the Rockstar Store, and no PC SKU you can pre-order at any price.

That is not the same as a denial. Every mainline Grand Theft Auto since GTA III has eventually reached PC, and PC Gamer's read is that a PC version is effectively inevitable but will not be dated until the console version has been out for a while. The honest position is that the game is coming and the date is unknown.

If a site gives you a specific GTA 6 PC release date, it is a prediction presented as news. Check whether the page cites Rockstar or cites another article — that distinction sorts almost all GTA 6 coverage.

What Rockstar's own history actually shows

This is the useful part, because it is the only hard data in the question. Rockstar has put three recent major titles on console first and PC later, and the gaps are wildly inconsistent:

GameConsole releasePC releaseGap
GTA IV29 April 20082 December 2008~7 months
GTA V17 September 201314 April 2015~19 months
Red Dead Redemption 226 October 20185 November 2019~12 months
Console-to-PC gaps on Rockstar's last three major releases.

Seven months at the fastest, nineteen at the slowest, twelve in the middle. And the outlier that should temper any confident pattern-matching: the original Red Dead Redemption launched on console in 2010 and did not get a PC release until October 2024 — fourteen years. Rockstar does not run a schedule here.

GTA V is also a reminder that the road to PC can have stops on it. It shipped on PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2013, got a PS4 and Xbox One re-release in November 2014, and only then reached PC in April 2015. A generational re-release before the PC version is a real possibility for GTA 6 too.

So what window does that give?

Applying the GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 gaps — twelve to nineteen months — to a 19 November 2026 console launch puts a PC release somewhere between roughly November 2027 and mid-2028. That matches the range most PC-focused coverage has settled on: PC Gamer argues it will not be before November 2027, and other outlets frame late 2027 or 2028 as the realistic window.

If GTA 6 follows…PC release would land around
GTA IV's 7-month gapJune 2027
Red Dead Redemption 2's 12-month gapNovember 2027
GTA V's 19-month gapJune 2028
The same historical gaps applied to 19 November 2026. Estimates, not announcements.

Every figure in that second table is arithmetic on past releases, not information about this one. It is worth exactly as much as the assumption that Rockstar repeats itself — which, on this specific question, it never quite has.

Why the wait happens at all

Rockstar has never published its reasoning, so this is the commercial logic the industry generally assumes rather than anything confirmed. Several forces point the same way:

  • A second sales cycle. A PC release a year later is a fresh launch with fresh coverage and near-zero marketing cost, rather than a slice of the same launch week.
  • Console platform money. Launch-window promotion from Sony and Microsoft is worth a great deal, and a simultaneous PC release dilutes what those partners are paying for.
  • PC is not one machine. Console optimisation targets three fixed hardware configurations. PC means thousands, plus driver quirks, ultrawide and multi-monitor, uncapped frame rates, and a settings menu that has to hold all of it together.
  • Mods and cheats land on PC. GTA Online's long-running cheating problem is overwhelmingly a PC problem, and if an online mode follows GTA 6, delaying PC delays that headache.
  • The piracy window closes with the launcher. A PC build is the version that can be copied; shipping it after the initial sales surge limits the damage.

The signals that would mean it is close

Rather than watching for rumours, watch for the things that have to happen before a PC release and cannot be faked:

  • A store page appears. A Steam, Epic or Rockstar Store listing — even a coming-soon page with no date — is the real starting gun. Publishers do not create these speculatively.
  • A ratings board entry for a PC SKU. ESRB, PEGI and the Australian Classification Board rate each platform version separately, and those databases are public.
  • System requirements get published. These only exist once the build is close enough to measure.
  • GPU driver release notes. Nvidia and AMD name upcoming titles in Game Ready and Adrenalin notes shortly before launch.
  • Take-Two's earnings language. Take-Two guides to titles by fiscal year on its quarterly calls; a PC version appearing in that guidance is confirmation before any trailer.

None of those five has happened. Until at least the first one does, any date is someone's arithmetic.

What this means if you only own a PC

Practically: you will not be playing GTA 6 on 19 November 2026, and you cannot pre-order your way around that. There is also no legitimate shortcut — no demo, no early access, no PC beta. That absence is what makes the search term "GTA 6 crack" so dangerous right now, and we wrote up what those downloads actually contain because researchers have already documented several of them as malware.

The one thing worth doing early is nothing to do with Rockstar: if you intend to play with people rather than alone, note that GTA 6 ships without any online mode on console too. The multiplayer question is not a PC-versus-console split — at launch, nobody is playing this with friends. Lining a group up in advance is the cheap thing to do about that: the GTA 6 crew finder records platform, region and playstyle now, so there is a list to build from rather than a cold start whenever an online mode opens.

Frequently asked questions

Is GTA 6 coming to PC?

Rockstar has not announced a PC version. Every mainline Grand Theft Auto since GTA III has eventually reached PC, so it is widely expected, but nothing has been confirmed and there is no store listing on any PC platform.

When will GTA 6 release for PC?

There is no announced date. Rockstar's console-to-PC gaps have ranged from about 7 months (GTA IV) to about 19 months (GTA V), which would put a GTA 6 PC release somewhere between mid-2027 and mid-2028. That is arithmetic on past releases, not information about this one.

Can I pre-order GTA 6 on PC?

No. There is no PC SKU to pre-order on Steam, Epic Games Store or the Rockstar Store, because no PC version has been announced.

Will GTA 6 be on Steam?

Unknown. GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 both eventually sold on Steam after periods of Rockstar Store exclusivity, but no GTA 6 PC distribution has been announced anywhere.

Is there a GTA 6 PC beta or demo?

No. Rockstar has published no demo, beta or early-access build of GTA 6 on any platform. Any site offering one is fraudulent.
