How much does it cost to play GTA 6?
If you already own a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, the answer is just the price of the game. If you do not, the console is the overwhelming majority of the bill — and there are two line items most guides add that you do not actually need.
The short answer
- The game
- $79.99 for the Standard Edition, $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition in the US. Those are the only two editions.
- If you already own a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S
- That is the whole bill. Nothing else is required to play on 19 November.
- If you are starting from nothing
- Add a console, which is the overwhelming majority of the cost. Console pricing has moved repeatedly and unevenly by region this year, so the calculator asks for your market rather than printing a figure that would be wrong within a quarter.
- A subscription
- Not needed. PS Plus and Game Pass Core gate online multiplayer, and GTA 6 launches single-player only.
Game price is the published United States storefront price. Everything else is yours to edit — console prices moved twice in twelve months, so a number baked into this page would be a lie by spring.
The one that saves you the most: you do not need PS Plus
This is the single most common mistake in GTA 6 cost write-ups. PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass Core exist to gate online multiplayer. GTA 6 ships as a single-player game — Rockstar's own PlayStation Store listing calls it “a single-player experience” — so there is nothing for a subscription to unlock on launch day.
Budget for one when an online mode actually arrives, which on the GTA V precedent is months rather than weeks after launch. Paying for twelve months now to play a single-player game in November is money set on fire.
What you genuinely need
- A PS5 or Xbox Series X|S. Non-negotiable. There is no PS4 or Xbox One version, and no PC version at launch. See platforms for what is and is not supported.
- The game. Standard is enough. The Ultimate Edition adds campaign cosmetics, not capability.
- Free storage. The estimates cluster around 150 GB to 200 GB plus a day-one patch. It has to be free by pre-load on 12 November, not by launch day. On a Series S, which ships with far less usable space than that plus a normal library, an expansion card is close to mandatory — and Xbox Series games can only run from internal storage or an official expansion card, not from a USB drive.
What you can skip
- A subscription. As above. Not needed on day one.
- A second controller. There is no local co-op or split-screen in a single-player Grand Theft Auto. One controller plays the whole game.
- A PS5 Pro or Series X. Rockstar has published no frame-rate or resolution targets, so nobody can currently tell you what the more expensive console buys you in this specific game. Paying a few hundred more for an unquantified difference is a choice, not a requirement.
- Anything claiming to be GTA 6 today. There is no demo, no beta and no early access. The “free download” versions are documented malware, and an emptied bank account is the most expensive way to play GTA 6 there is.
Why the console price above is an input, not a fact
Because console pricing has been unusually unstable, and unevenly so. Sony raised PS5 prices in 2025, raised them again in April 2026, then reversed that increase in August — but the reversal applied in the United States and not in Europe, so a European buyer still pays the April price while an American does not. Microsoft pushed Xbox Series X|S up sharply in August 2026 and has said memory costs may rise further. A figure printed into this page would be wrong within a quarter, and wrong for half the world immediately; a confidently wrong number is worse than a blank one.
So the calculator seeds what it can, dates it, and lets you correct it. What it is genuinely good for is the structure of the bill — which line items are real and which are sold to you.
What the game itself costs where you are
Storefront prices vary far more than currency conversion explains: South Korea is the cheapest major market at roughly $58 equivalent and Israel the most expensive at over $100, for identical files. Pick your country in the calculator for the exact local figure, or see release times and prices country by country.
And once the bill is settled, the thing that costs nothing: the GTA 6 crew finder lists players by platform, region and playstyle, so you have people to play with when an online mode does arrive.
Frequently asked
- How much does GTA 6 cost?
- $79.99 for the Standard Edition and $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition in the US. Those are the only two editions; there is no collector's edition, and the Ultimate extras are campaign cosmetics rather than capability. Local storefront prices vary by considerably more than currency conversion explains.
- How much does it cost to play GTA 6 from nothing?
- The game plus a console. In the US that is $79.99 for the Standard Edition plus roughly $500 for a PS5 Digital Edition or Xbox Series S, so about $580 before storage. Anyone who already owns a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S pays only the price of the game.
- Do I need PlayStation Plus or Xbox Game Pass to play GTA 6?
- No. GTA 6 ships as a single-player game with no online mode at launch, and single-player games have never required a subscription on either platform. You do not need PS Plus or Game Pass Core to play it on release day.
- What is the cheapest way to play GTA 6?
- An Xbox Series S or a PS5 Digital Edition plus the Standard Edition of the game. The Series S is usually the cheapest console, but it has the least storage, so budget for an expansion card — a 150 GB-plus install does not fit comfortably alongside anything else.
- Do I need to buy the Ultimate Edition?
- No. The extra content is cosmetic and convenience material for the campaign. Because there is no online mode at launch, none of it is a competitive advantage in a multiplayer economy, which is what Ultimate-tier content usually buys in this series.
- Can I play GTA 6 on PC to save money?
- Not at launch. There is no PC version and no announced PC release date, so a gaming PC is not an alternative on 19 November 2026 at any price.
