GTA 6 frame rate and performance modes: what has actually been published

Search for GTA 6 performance details and you will find confident numbers: 60fps performance modes, 4K quality modes, separate Series S targets. Almost none of it comes from Rockstar. Here is the actual state of the record, and how to tell the difference yourself.

The short answer

Rockstar has published no frame-rate, resolution or performance-mode figures for GTA 6, and neither the PlayStation nor the Xbox store listing states one. Every 60fps or 4K number in circulation is somebody's expectation rather than a target. What is confirmed is the platform list, and little else.

The published figures do not exist

Rockstar has not stated a frame-rate target, a resolution target, or the existence of quality and performance graphics modes for GTA 6. The official GTA VI page carries none, and neither the Xbox listing nor the PlayStation Store listing states them — which is notable, because store listings are usually where such specifics surface first, since platform holders require certain capability tags.

This is a claim about absence, which is unusually easy to check yourself: look for a primary source. If an article cites another article rather than Rockstar or a store page, the number has no origin. Follow two or three of those chains and they tend to terminate in a forum post.

What is actually confirmed on the technical side

  • Platforms: PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and Series S. Both Xbox tiers are supported.
  • No PC version at launch, and none announced at all.
  • No PS4 or Xbox One version. This is a current-generation-only release.
  • Digital pre-orders can begin pre-loading on 12 November 2026, a week before the 19 November release.
  • The game is single-player at launch, so there is no server-side performance dimension to it yet.

That is the complete confirmed technical record. Everything beyond it — including every number in every performance-mode table you have seen — is estimation.

Why Series S is the interesting question

Series S has materially less GPU capability and memory than Series X: roughly 4 TFLOPS against 12.2, and 10 GB of total memory against 16 GB. Rockstar committing to it says something real about how far the engine scales — but it says nothing about what either machine runs at.

The published gap between the launch consoles. Facts about the hardware; not statements about the game.

Anyone quoting separate Series X and Series S frame-rate figures is estimating from that gap. It is a reasonable thing to estimate from — it is just not information about GTA 6.

What history suggests, clearly labelled as history

Rockstar's own record on this generation is worth knowing, because it cuts against the 60fps assumption rather than for it. Red Dead Redemption 2 has never received a current-generation patch and still runs at its original 30fps cap on PS5 and Xbox Series consoles through backwards compatibility. GTA V's dedicated current-generation edition did ship with a 60fps performance mode — but that was a 2013 game being re-released onto hardware two generations newer.

A brand-new open world built to the limit of this hardware is a different engineering problem from either case. Which way Rockstar has resolved it is exactly what has not been said.

The PS5 Pro question

Rockstar's own page notes PlayStation 5 as optimal, and PS5 Pro exists with substantially more GPU capability and PSSR upscaling. But Rockstar has announced no PS5 Pro Enhanced support, no Pro-specific mode, and no figures for it. The absence here is the same absence as everywhere else in this article.

What to watch for instead

Concrete performance information tends to arrive in one of three ways, and it is worth knowing which you are looking at:

  • Capability tags appearing on a store listing. These are set by the publisher and enforced by the platform holder, so they are close to authoritative.
  • An official technical post or interview from Rockstar. Rare before launch, and the only place a design rationale would come from.
  • Independent frame-rate analysis after launch. The measured reality, and typically more useful than the marketing figure either way.

Until one of those exists, the honest answer to what frame rate GTA 6 runs at is that nobody outside Rockstar knows — and that includes whether there is a choice of modes at all.

Frequently asked questions

Will GTA 6 run at 60fps?

Rockstar has not said. No frame-rate target has been published for any platform, and neither store listing states one. Every 60fps figure in circulation is an estimate rather than an announcement.

Does GTA 6 have performance and quality graphics modes?

Unconfirmed. Rockstar has not stated that graphics modes exist, let alone what they target. Store listings, which normally surface capability tags, do not list them either.

What resolution does GTA 6 run at?

No resolution target has been published for PS5, Xbox Series X or Series S.

Will GTA 6 run worse on Xbox Series S?

Series S has roughly a third of Series X's GPU throughput and 10 GB of memory against 16 GB, so some difference is certain. Rockstar has published no figures for either console, so the size of that difference is unknown.

Is GTA 6 enhanced for PS5 Pro?

Not announced. Rockstar's page notes PlayStation 5 as optimal but has made no PS5 Pro Enhanced claim and published no Pro-specific figures.
