GTA 6 PC system requirements: what can and cannot be known yet
Search this and you will get a dozen confident spec tables. None of them came from Rockstar, because there is no announced PC version to have requirements for. There is, however, one genuinely informative hardware fact in the public record — and it is not in any of those tables.

The short answer
None exist. Rockstar has announced no PC version, so there are no official system requirements, and every spec table in circulation is invented. The one real hardware fact is a floor rather than a ceiling: Rockstar committed to the Xbox Series S, which is more informative than any fabricated table.
There are no official requirements, and there cannot be yet
System requirements are published alongside a store page, because they are measured against a build that is nearly finished. GTA 6 has no announced PC version and no PC store listing anywhere, so there is nothing for requirements to describe. Every spec sheet in circulation is a prediction, and the more specific ones are the least trustworthy — the honest write-ups say so themselves, as PCGameBenchmark does in labelling its numbers a prediction.
A prediction is not worthless. It is just worth knowing which parts are evidence and which parts are guesswork, and no spec table marks that boundary — so the rest of this article does.
The one hard number: Rockstar committed to Xbox Series S
This is the piece of real evidence, and most requirement predictions skip past it. GTA 6 ships on Xbox Series S. That is not a rumour — it is on Rockstar's own platform listing. And Series S is a genuinely modest machine:
| Xbox Series S | PlayStation 5 | Xbox Series X | |
|---|---|---|---|
| GPU compute units | 20 (RDNA 2) | 36 (RDNA 2) | 52 (RDNA 2) |
| GPU throughput | ~4.0 TFLOPS | ~10.3 TFLOPS | ~12.2 TFLOPS |
| CPU | 8-core Zen 2, 3.6 GHz | 8-core Zen 2, up to 3.5 GHz | 8-core Zen 2, 3.8 GHz |
| Total memory | 10 GB GDDR6 | 16 GB GDDR6 | 16 GB GDDR6 |
| Roughly available to games | ~8 GB | ~12.5 GB | ~13.5 GB |
| Storage | 512 GB NVMe | 825 GB custom NVMe | 1 TB NVMe |
So Rockstar has already committed to making this game run on a roughly 4-TFLOP GPU with about 8 GB of memory shared between graphics and everything else. Whatever the engine does, it scales down that far. That is a far better anchor for a minimum spec than any guess about the PC build, because it is a promise Rockstar has already made in public.
Why a console floor does not translate straight to a PC minimum
The temptation is to find the PC graphics card that matches Series S and call that the minimum. It does not work that way, and historically PC minimums land above the equivalent console tier for structural reasons:
- Memory is split on PC. A console has one unified pool a developer can allocate exactly. A PC has separate system RAM and video memory with a bus between them, so the same scene needs more total memory and more careful management.
- There is an abstraction tax. Console code talks to one known GPU through a thin API. PC code goes through Direct3D and a vendor driver across thousands of hardware combinations, and that costs both CPU time and predictability.
- Decompression is hardware on console. Both consoles have dedicated silicon for unpacking game assets from storage. On PC that work usually falls to the CPU unless DirectStorage is doing it, and streaming-heavy open worlds feel that difference.
- The OS is not dedicated. A console reserves a fixed slice for the system. Windows is running a browser, a launcher, chat, and an overlay or three.
What the circulating estimates say
For completeness — and clearly labelled as other people's predictions rather than published requirements — the figures across PC hardware sites cluster fairly tightly. This is roughly where PCGameBenchmark and similar prediction pieces land:
| Component | Circulating minimum | Circulating recommended |
|---|---|---|
| GPU | RTX 2060 / RX 6600 class | RTX 4070 / RX 7800 XT class |
| VRAM | 8 GB | 12–16 GB |
| CPU | Modern 6-core | Modern 8-core |
| RAM | 16 GB | 32 GB |
| Storage | 150 GB+ SSD | 150 GB+ NVMe SSD |
| Target | 1080p, low to medium | 1440p, high |
Read that table as a description of what a PC roughly equivalent to a current console costs today, which is genuinely useful for planning a build. Do not read it as what the game will ask for. The gap between a prediction made two years before a port and the port's actual requirements has historically been large in both directions.
The one requirement that is close to certain
An SSD. Both launch consoles are built around NVMe storage with hardware decompression, and an open world designed to stream against that assumption does not degrade gracefully onto a mechanical drive — it stalls. Red Dead Redemption 2 already recommended an SSD on PC in 2019, on a game designed for hard-drive-equipped 2018 consoles. GTA 6 has no such heritage to be compatible with.
This is an inference, not an announcement. It is just the inference with the least room to be wrong.
When real numbers will exist
With the store page, and not before — the same signal that would date the PC version itself. Official requirements land on a Steam, Epic or Rockstar Store listing, typically weeks rather than months ahead of release. Until one of those pages exists, nobody outside Rockstar has measured this game on PC hardware, and no amount of confident formatting changes that.
If you are planning a build now, the defensible version of the advice is: aim at the recommended column above rather than the minimum, prioritise VRAM, and buy the SSD capacity — GTA 6's install is expected to be very large and that part is not going to shrink on PC.
Frequently asked questions
What are the GTA 6 PC system requirements?
None have been published. Requirements are released alongside a store page, and GTA 6 has no announced PC version and no PC store listing. Every spec table currently in circulation is a prediction rather than an official requirement.
Will my PC run GTA 6?
That cannot be answered yet, because no requirements exist. The most useful anchor is that Rockstar committed to shipping on Xbox Series S, a roughly 4-TFLOP GPU with about 8 GB of memory available to games, so the engine does scale to modest hardware.
Will GTA 6 need an SSD on PC?
Almost certainly. Both launch consoles use NVMe storage with hardware decompression, and an open world built to stream against that assumption performs badly on a mechanical drive. This is an inference rather than an announced requirement.
How much RAM will GTA 6 need?
Unknown. For context, the launch consoles have 16 GB of unified memory total, of which roughly 12.5 GB is available to games on PS5. Predictions in circulation suggest 16 GB minimum and 32 GB recommended on PC, but Rockstar has published nothing.
How much VRAM does GTA 6 need?
No figure has been published. Circulating estimates put 8 GB as a 1080p floor and 12–16 GB for 1440p at high settings, based on comparison with the consoles rather than on any measurement of a PC build.
